South Carolina Football Recruiting: Gerald Turner Commits

The South Carolina football picked up their third commitment for the 2013 class as defensive end/linebacker Gerald Turner (Goose Creek/Goose Creek) committed to the Gamecocks.

Turner made his decision known via a tweet and chose the Gamecocks over offers from Clemson and North Carolina.

This young man gave USC the verbal pledge as he visited the spring football scrimmage today.

The Gamecocks plan to use him much like they did with former Gamecocks football standout Eric Norwood.  Meaning he could put his hand in the dirt or play like a linebacker in some coverage.

This is a great pickup for USC as Rivals ranks Turner as the 13th best inside linebacker prospect in the country and had him listed as a 4-star recruit. According to 247 Sports, he was a 3-star recruit and was the country’s 26th best inside linebacker prospect.

During his junior season, Turner tallied 42 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, nine sacks, six forced fumbles, five pass breakups, and five blocked punts.

Here is video of him:

Turner joins JUCO defensive end Alfy Hill and Dillon High School offensive lineman D.J. Park as members of the Gamecocks class of 2013.
