Recruiting

Jacksonville (FL) Lee HS offensive lineman Tramell Williams says he wants to be a Gamecock.

Williams passed up some other great offers to be a Gamecock. South Carolina beat out Illinois, Vanderbilt, Indiana, Southern Miss, and Maryland.

I love it. Keep getting the big boys up front b/c god knows we need them!

The 6-3, 270 pound Williams becomes South Carolina's 11th commitment in the 2010 class. He is ranked as the No. 11 center in the country on Scout.com.

Great Job Coach Wolford, Spurrier Jr and Beamer !

Via Scout.com - Along with prospect Ronald Patrick the Gamecocks landed another commitment over the weekend and the fourth in the last week in the form of Northside HS (Warner Robins, GA) cornerback Brison Williams.

Sorry we missed out on Logan Stewart who pledged to become a OL at Vandy as the gamecocks could have used the services of the 6 foot 4 inch 268lb big nasty up front to go with Patrick, A.J. Cann and Elliot Williams .

Let's welcome Mr. Williams to DB U where aspiring corners become NFL stars....for those who don't get it I mean the gamecock secondary.

Gamecocks currently have the 25th ranked class for 2010

Via Scout.com - The Gamecocks keep improving a weak point on the team and that is the offensive line. Seems the recruiting coordinators are busy lining up future gamecocks to line up in the future. The latest recruit to commit is Cocoa HS (Cocoa, FL) OL prospect Ronald Patrick.

Patrick becomes the Gamecocks' latest and 9th commitment of the 2010 class. The Gamecocks recruited Patrick to play guard and center. He joins four-star prospects A.J. Cann and Elliot Williams as the offensive linemen on USC's commitment list and it seems USC is after another.

Glad to see Spurrier & Co working to improve this area! Can I say the obvious...it is about time!

Three South Carolina football signees are headed to either prep school or junior college, while highly touted (4 star) Calhoun County receiver Alshon Jeffery is awaiting test results to see if he qualifies academically.

The 3 players are -

WR Charles Holmes
DE Duane Chisolm
DB Chris Payne

Not surprised really that we lose a couple in the recruiting process...we do this every year. However the Jeffery situation does scare me as he is a playmaker that had a shot at PT this fall.

According to Scout.com....South Carolina picked up its eighth commitment of the 2010 recruiting class on today when Parkland (Winston Salem, NC) DT Jalen "J.T." Surratt gave his pledge to USC coaches Jay Graham and Brad Lawing.

Go Cocks! Keep them coming!

Offensive lineman A.J. Cann (6-3 265) of Bamberg-Ehrhardt committed to South Carolina on Wednesday morning. Rivals has given this guy 4 stars and rated him as the 2nd best prospect in the nation as a center and 179 out of 250 overall.

Cann, one of the state's top prospects, had been getting serious looks from USC, UNC, UT, UK, Michigan, Clemson, N.C. State and Georgia Tech. Glad he came to his senses...

I am so so gald to see USC get a big nasty up front as all gamecock fans know we need all the help we can get up front with our O-line.

The USC football team Monday afternoon landed a commitment from QB Dylan Thompson (6-3 210) of Boiling Springs (same school as Phil Petty).

More HERE and HERE and HERE

Also here is a good read on USC QB commitment Connor Shaw, the Flowery Branch QB who threw for 2,200 yards and ran for 941 as a junior. He too is a 2010 recruit and makes this a 2 QB class which could be good for Spurrier as he transitions the game plan from a pro-style Qb to more of the current college QB style that can run and throw (basically create).

The Seattle Times reports that Nick Montana, the son of former NFL great Joe Montana, has decided to play football at Washington. ESPN has article HERE.

I had my fingers crossed on that one but I knew it was a long shot for this kid to come all the way to the east coast to play football.

USC Gamecock signee RB Ben Axon, who just completed his senior season, was arrested on a marijuana charge, according to a Bradenton Police Department report. Axon originally committed to play at Clemson, and was also recruited by Florida State, Purdue and West Virginia before choosing to play for Spurrier.

Hard to spin this....

"Axon gave the officer marijuana divided into 23 small bags and said the marijuana was his, the police report said."

That my friend is not good.....
