usc_uscThe South Carolina Gamecocks dominated the Clemson Tigers in head-to-head match-ups for 2011.  As the chart below indicates, the Gamecocks sports programs took care of business against their rival in 2011 winning 9 out of 13 contests.

This is on top of the Gamecocks winning 11 out of 15 contests against Clemson in 2010.

So in the last two years, the Gamecocks have beaten the Clemson Tigers in head-to-head contests 20 out of 28 times.  That my friends is what you would call domination.

Here is the 2011 breakdown:

SPORT DATE WINNER SCORE
W Basketball 11/17/2011 USC 65-48
W Soccer 9/9/2011 USC 2-0
W Swimming & Diving 10/29/2011 USC 191-108
W Tennis 2/27/2011 Clemson 4-3
Volleyball 9/9/2011 Clemson 3-0
M Basketball 12/4/2011 USC 58-55
M Soccer 9/2/2011 Clemson 2-0
M Swimming & Diving 10/29/2011 USC 162-137
M Tennis 3/23/2011 USC 5-2
Baseball 3/4/2011 USC 6-3
Baseball 3/6/2011 Clemson 10-5
Baseball 3/8/2011 USC 5-4
Football 11/26/2011 USC 34-13

Some notes to go along with the above, which is showing just sports that the two face head-to-head:

  • USC does not sponsor Women's Rowing.
  • Clemson does not sponsor Women's Equestrian, Women's Golf, Women's Lacrosse, or Softball.
  • Women's Cross Country and Women's Track and Field teams do not compete head-to-head.
  • USC does not sponsor Men's Cross Country.
  • Men's Golf and Men's Track & Field teams do not compete head-to-head.

So for those keeping count of the head-to-head match-ups, the Gamecocks BEAT the Tigers 9-4 in 2011.  (11-4 in 2010)

If knowing that is not enough, think about the fact that the USC football team has won three straight games versus Clemson and the USC men's hoops squad has won two in a row versus Clemson.  Not to mention, the Gamecocks baseball team has won back-to-back national championships, which did involve beating Clemson five times in doing so.

So the next time a Clemson fan or one of the coaches brings up the subject of dominating the rivarly, just mention 20 out of 28 in the last two years.

The South Carolina football rivalry with the Clemson Tigers just got even more interesting.  Nothing like fuel for the fire.

Dabo Swinney was asked about comments Steve Spurrier supposedly made after the beating his squad handed to the Tigers for the third year in a row.

Here is a video of Swinney’s rebuttal.  It gets interesting around the 2:10 mark as the first part is him talking about the VT Hokies which we hope issues Clemson another loss but that is beside the point:

Keep in mind that Spurrier didn’t say “We may not be Alabama or LSU, but we sure ain’t Clemson folks.”  That comment was made by Todd Ellis.

Safe to assume all his comments will be material used by all of USC sports teams when facing Clemson.

In the words of my momma...."Bless his heart."

Thoughts on these comments and the sore loser?

I respect our opponents and appreciate the fact that the Clemson rivalry has been one that we have played from an underdog role for the majority of the last century. I also like to hear what our rivals talk about, gloat about and worry about. I will not go all "Sun-Tzu" again, but I do believe "know thy enemy."

Here are some of the better postgame quotes making the rounds at Clemson blog sites. Please do not attempt to read this under the influence of any alcohol as you may wet your pants. Some are quite rational.  And again, the greatest respect to our fellow football bloggers.

So here we are, in no particular order....

The following is a interview with the South Carolina Gamecocks newest beat writer, Darryl Slater.  He covers USC sports for Charleston's Post & Courier.

Us here at LOHD have enjoyed reading his columns so we felt we need to dive into who this guy really is.  He has some big shoes to fill in our pal Travis Haney but as evidenced by his work, he is doing a wonderful job and is a welcomed addition to Gamecock Nation.

Besides the paper, he can also be found on twitter at @DarrylSlater so make sure you go follow him after you read our interview....
