Thoughts on the Gamecocks in Terms of Poker

The South Carolina football season is getting closer and this Gamecocks blog is beginning to develop that itch again. You know, the one that can only be satisfied by “Sandstorm” in Williams Brice. Putting it simple, we are ready for the 2012 USC football season.

The other day, someone asked about who is the Gamecocks “ace in the pocket?”

You know what we mean right? That is a poker term that generally means their is a secret winning strategy known to the holder of the card but not yet played yet. So who is the Gamecocks “ace in the pocket?”

According to most online poker/gambling sites, the Gamecocks are set to win at least 8 games but stand a chance to win the SEC east if things can fall into place for Spurrier’s squad. Having a “ace in the pocket” is just the thing that can bump the Gamecocks into the SEC championship and win 10+ games again. So who is that player….

We would say K.J. Brent.

Much attention on incoming freshman Shaq Roland and justified. Yet Brent could be a excellent spark amongst the Gamecocks wide outs. He is a redshirt freshman with tremendous potential. He’s got good size, great hands and speed. On top of that, he had a year to grow and learn the system. Plus he had a spring session to mesh with quarterback Connor Shaw. All this will blend in well with the opportunity at hand. That being, someone needs to step up to be the target that the USC pass attack can trust outside Ace Sanders and Damiere Byrd.

So do you agree that Brent is the “ace in the pocket” for the upcoming 2012 season?
