Thanks NCAA for almost making me pee in my pants due to waiting until almost kickoff to shed some light on the NCAA investigations that the University of South Carolina is undergoing and its’ impact on the 2010 season.
My heart and pulse raced. The pre-game beer began to taste bitter and the walk to the stadium was longer this time. All because of the NCAA and the hoop-la before kickoff. Not to much it dominated the discussions leading up the game.
This soap opera has so much drama....(read more after the jump)
After following updates on twitter before the game, thanks Travis Haney (@gamecocksblog) and others by the way, it was determined that cornerback Chris Culliver and offensive lineman Jarriel King were the only two players out of nearly a dozen that was to be held out of the first game of 2010.
Going into the last hour before kickoff things got crazy; all thanks to the NCAA.
If you didn't know about all of this until after the game...your are lucky as the moments leading up to kickoff was nuts. Yes - I thought of the worse.
As noted, for this game and I say that again – for this game – Culliver and King did not play. But others involved in the mad scramble before kickoff were: Akeem Auguste, C.C. Whitlock, Travian Robertson, Rodney Paulk, Melvin Ingram, Josh Dickerson, Terrence Campbell, Ladi Ajiboye and Marcus Lattimore. Oh and let’s not forget Weslye Saunders but he was already suspended for this game. The names of Chris Culliver and Marcus Lattimore surfaced before the game, although their names were not linked to The Whitney and seems to be altogether a separate issue. Yes another issue as we got the Whitney and the Agent thing going on.
I know the NCAA is doing their job but what frustrates me is do this within an hour of kickoff? That is what gets me. They have had weeks to get this sorted out and it seems there could be some more sorting as the NCAA may decide those other players may need to be punished after all. Spurrier said the investigation is still going on with "a couple of guys" and he hopes for it to be resolved in the next couple of days, while Johnson said he didn't know if Culliver would be back for Georgia.
For the record, I am not happy with the NCAA and wish they will go away. Find another school to mess with please. We have learned our lesson.
Well the good news out of all this is…
-
I did not pee in my pants before the game
-
Only two were affected (this time)
-
The Gamecocks Won
-
Seems we are finally getting answers in the "Gamecocks Soap Opera"
Bring on the 'Dawgs!
