Gamecocks Football: AP Ranks USC 12th

The South Carolina Gamecocks are the 12th-best team in the nation, according to the Associated Press Preseason Football Poll, which was released today.

This is the same ranking they received a few weeks back by the USA Today Top 25 Coaches’ Poll and is the highest ranking ever for the USC football program heading into a collegiate football season.

The Gamecocks finished the 2010 season with a 9-5 record and ranked 22nd in the country in both the Associated Press and Coaches’ polls. It was the Gamecocks’ first top-25 finish since the 2001 season.

The Gamecocks begin the 2011 season against the Pirates of East Carolina University on Sept. 3rd in Bank of America stadium in Charlotte, NC.
