60 is the number that exposed some Gamecock special teams weaknesses last season. USC finished 60th in the nation in kickoff returns last season and 7th in the SEC. That was actually one of the stronger Carolina special teams, but it wasn’t really all that good.
60.9 was the kickoff team’s average. That placed USC 12th in the SEC. Because of those short kicks South Carolina was also dead last in the conference in net kickoff, meaning on average USC’s opponents started off in great position against the defense. If South Carolina is to build on its success from last year, some improvement on the kickoff teams would be in order.
