Capital One Bowl Preview: Q&A with MadTown Badgers

The Capital One Bowl match-up between Wisconsin and South Carolina is around the corner and it is a good time to seek what the other side is thinking about this game.

We reached out to MadTown Badgers to give us the Wisconsin perspective, check it out in our "Q&A":

1. Everyone talks about the Wisconsin rushing attack. What else is there about the offense?

Nothing….OK, there’s a little something extra and his name is Jared Abbrederis, who won the Burlsworth Trophy and was named 1st team All-Big Ten as wide receiver. Wisconsin’s bread and butter is really pounding the rock and hitting gassed defenses in the play-action pass game. Stave to Abbrederis deep is a huge part of the gameplan each week. Now, if only Stave was a bit more adept at hitting the long ball accurately this season….

2. If you had to choose just one running back for your fantasy team, who would if be – Melvin Gordon or James White?

Melvin Gordon all day long. I love James White and think he’s perhaps the better long-term NFL prospect, but Gordon has home run capability every time he touches the ball. He’s just as capable of pounding the ball between the tackles as well. However, his open field vision and speed are a combination the Badgers haven’t see since maybe Anthony Davis and he wasn’t nearly as big as Gordon is.

3. Was Brett Bielema leaving last year a surprise? Do you think he will find success at Arkansas?

To say Bielema leaving the Monday following the Big Ten Championship was surprising would be an understatement. However, that’s not to say there wasn’t a vocal segment of the fanbase that was no where near sad to see him leave either. There were no hints at all inside or outside that program that Bielema was even thinking of leaving.
As for Arkansas, I think he will have success because he plays pro-style offense and very solid defense. His defensive units at Wisconsin were very underrated nationally and had they been in the SEC it wouldn’t have been that way. He’s also a very good recruiter and having the cache of the SEC next to his name now will only help matters. By all indications his first full class at WPS is looking pretty good.

4. What is Wisconsin fans perspective of the SEC?

That’s a good question honestly. Some find the whole S-E-C shtick annoying and contrived, while others respect the conference because it is very good. The reality is most feel that the SEC is a lot of hype beyond the top four or five teams and if the schools dared to play nationally during the regular season like the Big Ten, Big 12 or Pac-12 do it’s fortunes would be a little different. I mean, Florida hasn’t played a non-conference game outside the state of FL in nearly 15 years for cryin’ out loud.

5. Who wins the UW v. USC match-up and why?

I really think this game and the Rose Bowl have an opportunity to be classic New Year’s Day games, especially because these two teams love to be physical. At the end of the day though, I’m going to go with Wisconsin because it’s defense is vastly underrated and its offensive line is athletic enough to matchup with anyone outside of Clowney. I think it will be a very close game, but UW’s run game wears USC down in the fourth quarter for a 27-24 win.
