The South Carolina Gamecocks took care of business against the visiting Georgia Bulldogs. Final score was 35-7 but hidden in that score was USC's domination. Check out this video highlight of the game:

Saturday night's game was better than many could have dreamed. South Carolina took an early and commanding lead and pounded Georgia into submission. The only blemish on the scoreboard was a face-saving touchdown by UGa in the waning minutes. The Gamecocks dominated the Bulldogs thoroughly and win 35-7.

South Carolina's performance was a complete team performance. As well as many people played, few out shined the others. Of course there were plays that changed the game. The first that jumps to mind was Ace Sanders's punt return. Ace ran 70 yards through the teeth of the Bulldogs and blew the top off of Williams-Brice Stadium. Brent Musburger then proclaimed, "South Carolina is sending shock waves through the SEC."

This is it. The South Carolina Gamecocks vs. Georgia Bulldogs game is upon us. The city of Columbia, South Carolina is all sorts of hyped-up over this game as it should because this game has a lot to do with the outcome of the SEC East and it is a Top 10 match-up so it does carry weight in the hunt for a BCS berth for both squads.

For South Carolina to win, the Gamecocks have to control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. The key player in this game on offense for USC is Marcus Lattimore as he has to be successful on the ground. On defense, the key is Jadeveon Clowney as he must spend time in the UGa backfield or demand the double team to free up Devin Taylor. Basically, pressure on UGa's Aaron Murray is a must.

This game is likely to be close as we are talking about two heavyweights going toe-to-toe. This game should be special and the Gamecocks should come out with a victory.

Guess who Corso picked today at ESPN GameDay....

Each offseason brings change to coaching staffs around college football as either successful coaches leave for bigger and better jobs or guys that (according to fans don’t know what they are doing.  Just ask they guy in your section that knows everything) didn’t cut it get run off. Part one looks at three SEC hires that have caught the eye of the folks here at LOHD.

Hugh Freeze, Head Coach Ole Miss: The former High School coach has Ole Miss playing hard. Clearly there is a talent deficit in Oxford right now, but Freeze has the rebel black bears competing hard and that is a testament to his ability to get guys to buy in. Texas and Alabama have had their way with the first year head coach, but a bowl bid is in reach if Ole Miss can take care of business against Vandy and Arkansas and find a way to win one of A&M, Auburn, LSU, Georgia, and Mississippi State.

Lorenzo Ward, Defensive Coordinator South Carolina.  Ellis Johnson’s defenses bailed water for many years at South Carolina while Steve Spurrier tried to get South Carolina’s offense on track. Southern Miss gave Johnson another shot at head coaching and Spurrier tapped Lorenzo Ward to run the Gamecock defense for the Capital One bowl and Wards efforts were rewarded with the full time job. Carolina returned proven play makers in Devin Taylor, Jadaveon Clowney, DJ Swearinger, and Devonte Holloman but Ward is due credit for getting the Gamecocks ready to play. Motivation and focus are as much a part of the job as scheme and blitz packages.

Brent Pease, Offensive coordinator Florida. The day Charlie Weis left for the Kansas job may well be the turning point in Will Muschamp's tenure at Florida. Weis was never popular with the players and by some accounts did not mesh with the current staff.  Muschamp brought in Brent Pease from Boise State and after an underwhelming opener the Florida offense has gotten better each game. Quarterback has turned from a question mark into an asset. Driskel has thrown for 700 yards and is completing 69.6% of his passes and shown ability to get out of trouble and make plays with his legs.  Pease has been able to find roles for players on the roster (Solomon Patton on the end around) that has most guys buying in. Florida should be very good in 2013.

Is this weekend's game between South Carolina and Georgia a elimination game for the SEC East title? That seems to be the conventional wisdom. The theory is that a Georgia win would be too much to overcome. Given UGa's relatively easy schedule it will be tough for the Dawgs to lose two more. Conversely, if the South Carolina Gamecocks are good enough to beat UGa, they might not lose two more either.

There's another possibility, and it's name is Florida. If the Gators are back, then there is a three team race. So what?

Well, in that scenario one loss isn't fatal. All three could have a loss and tie for the division. It's possible it could come down to BCS standings to break the tie. If so, the team that loses on Saturday might be in the best shape because they'd have more time to climb the polls.

That's not to say Saturday night isn't important or that the winning team won't have an advantage, but its not the whole season. The Gamecocks will certainly be in a better position with a win, but the East won't be sewn up this weekend.

Our blogging pals over at College Football Zealots asked us to provide answers to their question from the South Carolina football perspective regarding the upcoming Georgia game. Read our feedback below:

1. Which players have been the most pleasant surprises so far this year (and why)?

Well, the first to come to mind would be backup quarterback Dylan Thompson as he rose to the challenge in filling in for a hurt Conner Shaw. Another has been linebacker Shaq Wilson as he has stepped up this year after being injured in 2011. The Gamecocks defense needed his intensity and efforts in the linebacking corp. Those two players are the individuals that I would say are the pleasant surprises thus far.

2. After five games, what areas do you see as the weakest parts of the Gamecocks overall game?

I think the special teams unit can improve, especially in the kicking game. Need the punter to be consistent and need the kicker to make everything inside 45 yards. Another area that needs to improve is just the Gamecocks, as a whole, coming out of the gate to start a game with determination and having that result in playing a complete game. I think, after five games, we have not seen the Gamecocks 100% and give 100%. Now that the squad is entering a hard part of the schedule, it is time to step up the level of playing.

3. What concerns you the most about the Georgia game?

Having USC come out strong to start the game is a concern due to the fact that the Kentucky game scared me as the Gamecocks were slow out of the gate and it almost cost them the win. That can not happen versus the Bulldogs and UGa is to good to mount a comeback on from a deep hole.  I also want to see the USC offensive line and how they respond to the UGa defensive front. This will be the best defensive front the Gamecocks have faced all year and the outcome of the game will be determined on how USC’s OL plays against the UGa DL.

4. South Carolina wins this game if _________?

They must capitalize off of what UGa gives them. Whether it is a turnover or key field position, the Gamecocks must find success on Georgia’s mistakes. This game will likely come down to inches or a turnover. So the Gamecocks have to take what is given. Also I feel that the Gamecocks need to have a balanced offensive attack and on defense, they must pressure Aaron Murray and disrupt his flow. Do those things and the Gamecocks will win.

John L. Smith: Smith has proven to be a complete and utter disaster for Arkansas. While basking in the glow of such a glorious dumpster fire, one has to wonder, is this all Petrino’s doing? The Hawg D is bad and Arkansas isn’t playing with any heart. You can’t put all of that on John L. Smith. Right now, Arkansas is going to go from being in the BCS conversation to last place in the SEC West. As bad as John  L. Smith is purported to be, the entire staff remained in place. Arkansas shouldn’t be this bad. Charlie Strong has to get the first call here, right? SEC experience, defensive minded coach, excellent recruiter, Arkansas native. What else is Arkansas looking for?
