The South Carolina Gamecocks claimed a much needed win against the visiting Arkansas Razorbacks in SEC play. The 38-20 win helps USC get back to their winning ways as they remain in the hunt for a BCS berth.

South Carolina claimed a 38-20 win over Arkansas on Saturday afternoon at Williams-Brice Stadium. This win helped the Gamecocks improve to 8-2 overall and 6-2 in the SEC.

This win also extends South Carolina's home winning streak to 10 games, which is the third longest streak in school history. Here is video highlights of the win:

The Arkansas Razorbacks come to Columbia, SC to take on the South Carolina Gamecocks with both teams with lots to play for. For USC, it is about finishing the season strong and getting to a quality bowl. For the Hogs, well it is about respect to what is a bleak season.

USC should win this game but they have to respect Arkansas and not take them for granted. Here are three things to look for in this game from the USC perspective as it will determine if USC wins....

1. Handling Tyler Wilson. He's one of the best QBs in the nation and the Gamecocks must lessen his effectiviness in the game. Wilson has thrown for at least 230 yards in every full game he's played and has 16 touchdowns to eight interceptions. How the USC secondary limits him via the pass is something to watch. If USC can limit the attack then they win but if Wilson has time to pick USC apart well it could be a long day.

2. South Carolina's defensive pressure. Two names that have to be said a lot by the announcers is Jadeveon Clowney and Devin Taylor. Their job will be to make Wilson's day as tough as possible. The USC defense is at its best when the pressure is there and in this game it has to be there.

3. Connor Shaw stepping up. He is coming off his best game of the year against Tennesseem with 389 yards of total offense and four touchdowns. With Lattimore out, Shaw has to be the "man." Look for Shaw to find his groove early via the air which will open up the ground attack.

Today, Steve Spurrier made it known that the USC football team will be without Mike Matulis for the rest of the year. This is a blow to the depth of the offensive line as Matulis had played both offensive tackle spots since the beginning of last season. Spurrier revealed that it is a shoulder injury and will reuire another surgery, this one on the opposite shoulder that caused him to miss spring practices.

“He did the same thing to his other shoulder that he did last year,” Spurrier said. “I told him the other day, ‘You’ve got to start learning to block him like an offensive lineman instead of a wrestler.’ He has a little tendency to try to grab at them or something and gets his shoulder knocked back out of whack. Hopefully he can have successful surgery and start blocking with those hands a little bit more inside. That would help him.”

Again, this hurts the depth on the line and someone now will have to step up going forward. We wish Matulis the best in his recovery.

This year the SEC is a top heavy league.  It is entirely possible and maybe even probable that the top half of the conference will all finish with 9-3 or better records.  Unfortunately, that doesn't bode well for South Carolina.  Here are this week's bowl projections.

BCS Championship: Alabama v. Oregon

The Crimson Tide have another tough game this weekend against Texas A&M, but there's no reason to assume a loss in that game.  After that, the schedule gets much easier with Western Carolina, Auburn and Georgia.  The Tide will remain number one.  Oregon should finish its schedule undefeated.  Notre Dame and Kansas State may as well, but neither has a championship game to propel them to the top in the last BCS standings.

Sugar Bowl: Florida v. Notre Dame

The Gators should beat Florida State at year's end.  If they fail to, their bowl slot will take a hit.  With U-La-La and Jacksonville State in the next two weeks the Gators essentially have three weeks to prepare for the Seminoles.  Notre Dame may or may not beat Southern Cal in the season finale.  It won't matter either way; they will be an attractive team for any BCS bowl to invite.

CapitalOne Bowl: Georgia v. Michigan

The Bulldogs have successfully taken advantage of the hand they were dealt.  They should fall to Alabama in Atlanta, and the CapitalOne Bowl will be a good landing spot.  The B1G is going to get slaughtered this year in the bowls because their top two teams won't be playing.  That moves everyone up to slots they shouldn't be in.  Michigan will be the sacrificial lamb in this one.

The 2012 Tennessee game will always, always be the game remembered more for one play than the result of the game.  Like Mississippi State last season the game will be the one when Marcus got hurt.  It was one of the worst injuries I've ever witnessed on the football field, and it happened to one of the best people I've ever seen play.  It is heartbreaking, unfair and overshadowing.  It is not, however, terminal.  Marcus Lattimore is very much alive, and he is already beginning his recovery.  Plans are no doubt already being made to heal his leg and allow him to continue his life, on the football field, perhaps, and certainly off of it.  Anyone who has watched Marcus for these three years knows he will go on and so will this season and so will this team.

The game itself was frustrating.  The defense that has been so strong for so many games yielded nearly 500 yards.  Akeem Aguste aggravated a nagging groin injury during the week and was unavailable.  Given the way the Vols passed, it would have been nice to have him.  The USC defense had no answers for the UT passing attack.  At one point D.J. Swearinger moved to cornerback for a while to try to stop the attack.  Almost nothing worked.
